Metal Warehouse for Lumberyards

Lumberyards need a lot space. Even an axe swinging, lumberjacking Paul Bunyan would be feeling a little cramped at most massive saw mills and yards today. With demand exceeding output at most milling facilities nationwide, lumberyards are teeming with freshly cut wood awaiting refining before being shipped straight to the builders. Most of the green lumber used in construction isn’t ready for building or restoration work straight from the forest. Like any other raw material, it needs refining and treatment. While green lumber can dry  more quickly and is advantageous for building in certain climates, many builders still prefer kiln dried wood products. Even if you don’t plan on using pre-treated wood, it still needs to be cut in proper segments and sections down at the local lumberyard. Mills and other wood storage warehouses therefore need a lot of space for incoming products and wood that needs to be treated. Properly storing wood in a metal warehouse for lumberyards can protect your investment and free up extra space for more time sensitive orders.

Why You Should Choose A Metal Warehouse for Lumberyards

Not only can a metal warehouse for lumberyards maximize operating space, but these tough structures are ideal for inventory protection. We don’t have to tell you what the biggest environmental risk for a lumber yard is. Every year, fire destroys lumber yards and other milling facilities. Because of the large fuel source and the reliance of fossil fuels for dry kilning supplies, lumber yards remain a favorite target for for flames and errant sparks. Even sawdust is a highly combustible product that inundates every facility with the equivalent of black powder that is primed for an explosion.  Recently, a fire at a lumberyard in the town adjacent to our factory in western North Carolina destroyed most of the yard and factory machinery for this small town operation that provided wood for luxury furniture products in Europe and Asia. While the official cause of the fire remains under investigation, we don’t have to allude to how quickly the flame consumed the facility. The fire was treated to a Golden Corral style buffet as it had it’s choosing at which woods to sample as it just began to whet its appetite before fire fighters finally subdued the blaze. While we aren’t privy to the storage configuration at the fire scorched lumber yard, we can suggest that metal warehouse for lumberyards from Elephant Structures could’ve mitigated the damage by providing additional space for an over cramped facility. At the very least, a metal warehouse could’ve slowed down the fire or confined it to a particular area by separating other pallets of lumber away from the main fire.

As you can tell from the picture above, our metal warehouses are more than capable of providing plenty of overhead for storing wood products and equipment.
