How Safe is Your Carport or Metal Garage?

How-To Store Your Property Safely

When customers call in to Elephant Structures, the main thing each of them brings up is what they’re storing inside the building. The property within each structure is the main focus at the end of the day. It often comes up in the customization process that customers will opt for a completely tan building, or white, keeping it simple in favor of overcomplicating their structure. So in a response to some your questions and top concerns, Elephant has decided to explain how safe your carport or metal garage is.

The Material

Steel is the future of all construction. Every large building that is built to last in business, residential areas, or storage is made out of steel. The strength to weight ratio, and the ability to recycle nearly every piece of steel makes it’s material a no contest winner for architecture and engineering. It may be more expensive to purchase steel over wood, but the reasons for doing so far outweigh the initial money you save on material cost. There is a lot that can go wrong with wood. Also, with a skilled group of engineers anything wood can do steel can do better. Not to mention the low upkeep and engineered longevity of steel buildings make them much safer than wood for much longer periods of time.

The Danger

When it comes to our main competitor, wood buildings, every one of them suffers from glaring risks. The main one being fire. Wood burns. We know we’re not really educating anyone in that regard, but if you speak to a wood building advisor, they most certainly won’t mention it. Nothing is truly fireproof as enough heat will eventually burn anything. Steel is far more resistant to the elements than wood. If a small fire takes place due to an electrical failure, or something similar within your metal garage or carport there’s enough time to save your property with a fire extinguisher or some well placed buckets of water. With a wood building, a small fire can turn into a full blown inferno in a matter of seconds, depending on how dry and old the wood is.

Snowman Buried in the Snow

That’s not the only risk that steel buildings beat wood buildings on. Snow loads are of high priority in certain areas of the country, as some people may be dealing with snow on their homes for a few months at a time. The build up can sneak up on you, and before you know it you’re storage building has collapsed and whatever property you had within is destroyed. Our structures can be certified, and they’re always built to your country’s codes and loadings. Sometimes that isn’t possible with wood. The engineering just isn’t there. With steel, your property is that much safer right out of the gate, with options for more certification if desired.

The main risk to all structures is something we briefly touched on above, time. The time that a structure is exposed to the elements is the number one cause for lowering it’s safety rating. That’s where we bring up the Elephant in the room here at Elephant Structures. Most of these steel buildings are going to outlast you. Wood, not nearly. If structures are lucky, maintain repairs and are consistently used, then maybe some wood garages will last 30 years. Our structures however, will last a long, long time, and the safety of your property stored within is the number one thing that benefits from our engineered longevity.

The Safety

We attempted to focus on some of the most noted concerns that our customers raise, but if you truly want to know why our buildings are the safest on the market you can browse our FAQ’s, or call in to speak with a building advisor. We offer a 30 year rust-through warranty on all out buildings, and with certification options available to just about whatever specifications you require there’s not a competitor in the industry that creates structures safer than us….Except maybe our other branch, Elephant Safe Rooms.

When it comes to safety being the number one priority, we encourage you to purchase our garage and carport options in regards to property and livestock. They’re reliable models, and can be certified to shockingly tough specifcations. However, if you’re interested in having an emergency safety room, Elephant Safe Rooms is the way to go for personal and familial peace of mind.
